The Classics Club reading meme this month is a question asking its members to explain why they are reading the classics.
For me the classics are the root of all modern literature. Sometimes I feel that to understand the modern lit or other classic writers is to read the classics novels, poetry or writers that inspired them.
Classics are classics for a reason. They reach across the scope of space and time connecting readers from different walks of life, inspiring us to become who we are. Sometimes the classics are read just to say “Oh yeah, I’ve read that book”. But to me, as a reader and someone who seeks to understand the meaning and history behind literature. I read the classics to read literature.
They are great conversation starters.
Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful afternoon.

Definitely that!
Yes, for me classics are inspiring in a very good way
I like to read classics so that I can watch how the concepts evolved and resonated through time as well. It’s funny how easy it is to forget that every novel today has been influenced by SO many novels before it…and even the authors themselves don’t recognize the entirety of the influence because it’s so complex!
That what I love about literature, it has no boundaries.
